Lip Tattoo Aftercare

Import Notes

Please read all pages carefully to ensure the best understanding of your Lip tattoo aftercare. These are cosmetic tattoo procedures and the aftercare is crucial in achieving the best results.

The guide will also help answer questions and prepare you for the stages of healing which can be shocking if not prepared.

Immediate Lip Tattoo Aftercare

The first 24hrs

Instantly after the lip blush treatment, you may notice that your body is producing a yellow looking lymph fluid.
This is a normal occurrence of a healthy immune system and if you like, you can choose to use a fragrance-free baby wipe in a rubbing back and forward motion to remove all your lymph fluid, blood and excess ink that may form a scab.
Repeat this procedure every hour for the first 3 hours.
Besides your baby wipe and given lip balm, please do not put anything else on the area during the healing stage.
If the treatment was done late in the afternoon and you do not have time to wipe over your lips for 3 hours, don’t panic! This is not a necessity and won’t affect your healing outcome.

Continue Your Aftercare

The next 7 days

In the next 7 days, maintain facial hygiene. If you are finding a lot of excess ink building up, very gently wipe your lips with a clean and new fragrance-free baby wipe once a day. Be careful not to rub your lips and only gently wipe them as you could possibly rub the ink out of your freshly tattooed lips.
Please use the recommended aftercare balm. MORE IS MORE when it comes to aftercare balm so if you feel like you need to use this every 20 minutes, use it every 20 minutes.

Not To Do

What to avoid

During the first 7 days:
Avoid creams, moisturisers, lipstick, or gloss on the lip area and only use the lip balm provided. If preferred, paw paw cream may be used instead.

Avoid spicy foods and hot drinks until peeling is complete. Do not overstretch the lips or pick at scabs. Applying balm regularly will soften the skin and allow scabs to fall away naturally. Apply balm before showering. Lips can get wet, but the balm will act as a protective barrier.

Following these steps will support infection-free healing and a clearer colour result.

During the first 30 days:
Avoid sunbathing and solariums, as the skin may appear healed but will still be repairing underneath.

Laser treatments may be performed during this time but must avoid the lip area (including Fraxel and IPL), as these can damage pigment and cause burns.

Avoid antibiotics and hormonal therapy, as these can cause faster pigment fading. Always protect the lips from the sun with SPF 50 — either directly or within a balm, ensuring it is applied over the lips.

Your Outcome

Factors that effect your result

The success of the treatment depends on many factors including but not limited to:

  • Skin quality
  • Post-treatment flow & care
  • Exposure to different environments

All of these factors are out of the artist’s control, so any possibility to provide guarantees for the treatment is excluded. We always say:

“50% OF THE TREATMENT IS BY US AND THE OTHER 50% IS YOU LOOKING AFTER IT”

Please rest assured that everyone’s healing process is different and it’s an interesting process to watch first hand.

Lip Tattoo Aftercare FAQs

Why Do My Lips Look So Dark Immediately After The Procedure?

As the pigment oxidises, the fresh ink along with the swelling makes the lips appear darker initially. Over the first week, it will lighten, peel, and settle into a softer, more natural tone.

What Should I Avoid Doing During The Healing Period?

Don’t pick or peel the flaking skin. Stay away from hot or spicy foods, avoid heavy sweating, sun exposure, and lip products until healing is complete.
